I bet you’ve already heard this term. But in case you’re still wondering what is strobing – simply put – strobing is a makeup technique used to layer highlights on the face to create an illuminated complexion. Strobing is different from contouring because instead of using a powder or cream that is one shade darker and another one that is a shade lighter, strobing uses highlighters to make your skin seem brighter. You still place the highlighters on areas of the face where the light naturally hits to create an illuminated complexion. Tops of the cheekbones, the temples, centre of the nose and on the cupid’s bow. For contouring think Kim Kardashian. For strobing, think of Jennifer Lopez.
Yanisha just about had a meltdown, as she’s just learned to contour. But honestly you guys, I’ve never contoured. I tried it once and frankly, I thought it made me look like a clown. I don’t want to say that I’ve been strobing all along – but I have. I prefer using bronzers and highlighters like M.A.C Mineralized Skinfinish in Global Glow. I also like using Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal or Rose Gold. To really amp up my complexion, I also use NARS Illuminator in Orgasm underneath my powder.
There you have it! Don’t be intimidated by this new term. If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably been strobing all along too.
