When I first started wearing make-up, I started out with lipstick. But I gotta be honest with you, I was totally afraid of it! For like, whatever reason, I thought it was too bold! Too va va voom! Nice girls don’t wear rouge lipstick. I tried to work with some nude shades instead. But they all made my light-brown complexion look so washed out. They were too nude. I couldn’t seem to find a shade that was conservative, yet still popped.
Then I discovered M.A.C’s matte and retro matte lipstick shades. Ruby Woo, Flat Out Fabulous and Candy Yum-Yum to name a few. Now not everyone can get along with a matte finish. It has no shine, no gloss and can be very drying. But I love it! In fact, it’s almost the only finish I wear. To achieve my perfect red pout: I fill in my lips with Brick Lip Pencil, then I outline them with Beurre Cremestick Liner. Next I layer in a good even coating of Ruby Woo lipstick, then I top this off with Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick 1. The Viva Glam lippy adds the perfect bit of shine and makes the Ruby Woo pop out even more.
Now onto creamy, nude lips. I start with Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Canvas. Discovering Hourglass has been a godsend. It goes on like a gloss but finishes like a stain. And it doesn’t move. Doesn’t even budge. I love it! Then I line with my M.A.C creamstick liner in Beurre and top off with Velvet Teddy. This combo gives me that perfect nude shade that I’ve been after. Nude with a little pop of creamy pink.
